Successfully developed the Cell Line and Seed Virus derived from the Original WHO YFV 1977 in the production of safe and effective Yellow Fever Vaccine including large scale manufacture of YFV Vaccine in single-use bioreactor platform technologies.
Test for mouse neurovirulence safety and vaccination-challenge studies in hamster model were conducted independently in NIH-funded University Joint Project.

This YFV Vaccine is expected to replace the long-established vaccine production in embryonated chicken eggs. The Cell Line of choice has been used in human vaccine production to date.

LTalens working with his wife, Dr. Angelita D. Talens, herself an experienced developer of rapid diagnostic kits such as Lateral Immunochromatographic Assay or Lateral Flow Diagnostics and NGS Deep Sequencing, are currently working with the Viral Vaccine Team headed by its Director Dr. I. Olave on the process-scale up of Pentavalent Rotavirus Vaccine and Quadrivalent recombinant Human Papilloma Vaccine in support of the Global Vaccine Initiative by the Gates Foundation.

We remain hopeful that someday the Philipines will become manufacturer of animal and human vaccines with the full support of the Philippine authorities and Philippine Health Industries.


My research interests include: Vaccine and Diagnostics Development and Manufacturing including Validation for cGLP and cGMP compliance; HIV-1 and Hepatitis C drug development, Validation and cGMP compliance, HIV-1 p24 ELISA, HCV-Core antigen ELISA, , HIV RT assay, peripheral blood mononuclear cell HIV co-cultivation, use of MAGIC 5A and MT2 cells for HIV-1 focus-forming unit and TCID 50% assays, respectively.
