Mr. ARMANDO Fermin
Armando C. Fermin

Armando “Andy” C. Fermin has 30 years of experience in aquaculture research, training, and extension obtained from his two employers, Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, and SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department. He finished B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from CLSU. He first joined SEAFDEC in 1978 as a Fisheries Technician and then Senior Research Assistant at the Binangonan Freshwater Station. He was a member of the team that pioneered the induced spawning of bighead carp in Laguna de Bay. In 1988, he transferred to the Tigbauan Main Station and conducted research on sea bass nursery. He was a recipient of a joint research grant from the International Foundation for Science (Sweden) and the Asian Fisheries Society (Philippines) in 1993 for the study on nursery rearing of seabass in illuminated floating sea cages. He has published more than 30 articles in local and international journals and proceedings. He won the Best Research Paper on Fisheries and Aquatic Resources award in 1992 from the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Bureau of Agricultural Research, and the DA Secretary's award for two Published Papers in 2003. He has presented in various local and international conferences. He was a lecturer and resource person in various local and international training courses at SEAFDEC and in other parts of the country. He is a member of the International Abalone Society, Asian Fisheries Society, Network of Tropical Aquaculture Scientists, Tropical Marine Mollusks Programme, Philippine Aquaculture Society, and the National Research Council of the Philippines. He held the position of Scientist until his separation from SEAFDEC/AQD. Andy is currently working as aquaculture expert in the Sultanate of Oman Ministry of Fisheries Wealth since November 2008.

Current Research Projects (Sultanate of Oman Ministry of Fisheries Wealth):
Breeding and seed production of the Omani abalone Haliotis mariae (2008 to present)
Stock enhancement of the Omani abalone Haliotis mariae (2010-2012)
